What do you love about yoga/breath/meditation?
Connection lies at the crux of this spiritual intersection for me. Whether it is the connection to the moment with the breath, to infinite spirit with meditation, or the invigoration of life force in the body with yoga; I find that my practice follows an intense bypassing of the egoic mind to activate and experience modes of consciousness that transcend the day to day rat-race mindset. I believe that yoga, breathwork, and meditation are gateways that allow us to release, heal, and empower ourselves for mindful living.
Why did you decide to start teaching?
Yoga, much like many other healing modalities are a gift to be shared with all those who seek. I don't know if decided is the right word to describe my motivation to guide others in their practice, divine inspiration or calling seems to fit better. Teaching chose me, with me kicking and screaming along the way. I realized that the next step in my journey was not a deeper dive inward as a hermit, but rather an expansion outward, wherein I could be exposed to the lessons provided by a student/teacher relationship. I maintain to this day, I learn more from my students then they could possibly learn from me.
How has yoga impacted your healing journey?
Yoga has provided me with consistency. Yoga is always meeting me where I am, not where I thought I was nor where I think I need to be. The practice allows me the space to be fully present with the state I am currently experiencing whether that is joy or anxiety, anger or bliss I can simply allow these things to be, free of judgment. That state of neutrality is in and of itself, pure healing.
